Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis "Ngara"


Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis is living in sandy environments and in the neighbourhood of rocks. They can be found in entire Lake Malawi as well in reasonable shallow water as in deep water on depths of more then 40 meters. The ones shown here are offspring from examples which were caught in the neighbourhood of Ngara.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 30 cm, females grow to about 25 cm.


Taeniolethrinops praeorbitalis is mainly feeding itself with grubs of insects which they jigg out of the sand. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments, mbunas are generally too aggresive.


In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
